New year, a new mindset

I am more determined than ever to create my own business. With that, I am changing my mindset to something I am familiar with from my day job: a project management mindset.

When I start with a new project, I break it down into more manageable parts. Last year, I focused on yearly goals that did not have clear timelines or clear deliverables, which drove me to procrastinate and then become burned out at the year’s end as I tried to cram everything in a month.

I’ve created quarterly goals and I will update them throughout the year, as not all goals are set in stone. Flexibility allows one to thrive.

  • Plan dye garden for 2024

Use design handout to design an outfit for Qveen Herby concert

    Develop the Keltelier brand

    Determine ideal customer

Share a new design once per week on blog and socials

    Become competent with Clo3D program

  • Test dyes on linen

    Film and share a video

Post a blog entry once per week

    Create 3 digital download products

  • Take a design from 2D -> 3D -> physical pipeline

    Design a small collection

  • Sell something I designed

Hit 100 followers on Keltelier Instagram

Have 100 unique hits on Pomegranate Threads blog

There are more goals in the first half of the year compared to the second half, and I expect to fill out the latter half of the year as time passes. I want to make every goal into a SMART goal.

SMART stands for

  • Specific

  • Measurable

  • Attainable

  • Relevant

  • Time-bound

So, each goal will be narrowed down to the most specific point and given a measurable attribute. I struggle with ensuring goals are attainable as my mind thinks I can do more than is feasibly possible. This is something I get assistance with from my dear partner. Most of my goals are relevant, and adding a timeline to each one gives a finish line to avoid pushing everything to the end of the year.

This month, my main goal is to revisit my favorite mindset books. The three books on my list are “Playing Big” by Tara Mohr, “Secrets of Six-Figure Women” by Barbara Stanny, and “Atomic Habits” by James Clear. Rereading these, I hope, will help me settle into this mindset. I am excited to see what this year will bring for me and this journey.
